Sussex Downs College sets up Job Shop

Sussex Downs College sets up Job Shop

Job Shop – the new, free service at Sussex Downs College – is enabling employers to promote job openings and work experience opportunities to thousands of existing and ex-students through platforms including the College Website, Facebook, Twitter and Moodle.

The college are keen to hear from employers from across Sussex offering full-time and part-time, permanent and temporary positions, as well as apprenticeships, work experience or voluntary opportunities.

“This particular service has been set up in direct response to increasing requests from local organisations to make students aware of vacancies,” says Work Placement Officer, Lee St Clair: “As work placements have become an essential part of many courses, supporting employers have realised the positive contributions that young people can make to their businesses.

“As well as enthusiasm and energy, they can also offer a fresh perspective, up-to-date skills and the latest thinking. We will be extending the Job Shop service to individuals who are returning to work after extended absence, or who find themselves having to change career after redundancy.”

“As Job Shop expands we will be developing areas of the College’s website to profile local employers, highlight students’ experiences and provide information and advice for employers, students and parents and carers.”

Jolene Howard, of Go Ahead Events, recently used the Job Shop to recruit waiting and bar staff for the Hove Champagne Festival. Jolene says: “The Job Shop provided us with a way of instantly communicating our requirements to students.  We would be really keen to work with students again as they were hardworking, bright and quick to learn and brought such energy and enthusiasm to the event.”

For further information, or to add a vacancy, please contact Lee St. Clair or Mike Day, Employer Training, Sussex Downs College, on 0845 2302 007.
