New volunteer roles within the Chamber announced

You can make us even better - Chamber volunteers needed

Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce has achieved phenomenal success over the past few years. We have delivered a demanding schedule of over 60 high-quality, well-attended events, created the successful Ride the Wave business-support programme, lobbied the press and Council on key issues, and created close working partnerships with a number of key local organisations . We continue to grow, attracting 12 to 24 new members each month.

This success is due to our small team of dedicated staff and a large team of over 60 enthusiastic volunteers.  But there is a great deal more we want to achieve during this, our centenary year, and beyond.  To do this, we need the help of our members.  As well as needing volunteers to help us with the day-to-day tasks that go into running a successful Chamber, we also need members willing to take on strategic roles that will develop and expand the Chamber and what we can offer.

If you'd like to put yourself forward for any of the roles below, or you'd like to find out more, please contact, Sarah Springford email director@businessinbrighton.org.ukor telephone 01273 719097

Strategic roles
Representing the Chamber at meetings in the city
Are you passionate about the city, interested in what goes on behind the scenes and want to make a difference about how it is run?  You need to be diplomatic, connected, well informed, a good communicator, and be able to see and negotiate opportunities for the Chamber and represent the members’ views at a range of meetings. You’ll be working closely with the Chamber president, vice presidents, chairs and director.

Events strategy and planning
We need a dynamic and creative thinker, who understands the business community’s needs,  to help shape and support our events programme. You will ideally have practical events experience, as well as an understanding of the value and role of events in achieving wider organisational goals. You will work alongside Vice President, Fay MacDonald of Diosa Media, who has overall strategic responsibility for Chamber events.

Finance

Are you an experienced financial professional? We are looking for someone who can help oversee our financial activity, working on budgets and tenders, checking financial calculations and undertaking financial business modelling for new projects.

Sponsorship and funding

With a sponsorship target of £20k per annum we need a professional to help shape our existing ideas,  liaise with our sponsorship partners and make great things happen. There are a number exciting funding opportunities, (like the recent European Commission funded project we have been awarded), but to take advantage of these we need a project manager who will develop ideas for projects and approach funders.

Chamber Rooms
Our co-working space is an exciting new development that we are very pleased with, as are the co-workers who have discovered it. We are now looking for someone to help build its reputation and popularity and oversee the development of the space and how it functions.

Marketing and sales
We’d like a strong marketing strategist on the team to help guide and shape what we do. There’s lots to consider, including membership sales, branding new products and services, the Chamber’s sub brands, and developing benefits for the wide range of sectors.

General volunteering roles
Communications support
Would you like to join our talented and dynamic Communications Group?  We want members who will write blog posts on:
•    Chamber events
•    political issues
•    city issues
•    spotlight on members
•    stories about chamber activity.

Events support

We are also looking for members who will:
•    be in our events quality assurance team
•    tweet live from Chamber events on the Chamber Twitter
•    write reviews of events
•    interview attendees at events for the Chamber blog or podcast
•    gather feedback/collate research at events.

These roles do not need to take up a lot of time, can be rewarding and place you at the heart of the Chamber. For more information contact us on 01273 719097.
