Invitation to Participate in the Carers Challenge

Wed 19 / 05 / 10

Invitation to Participate in the Carers Challenge

Could you spend some time with a carer or group of carers to hear first-hand about their experiences?

The Carers Challenge will take place over four weeks from 1st to 25th June with the following aims:
*To raise the profile of carers across the city
*To encourage organisations to consider the impact of their services on carers
*To encourage employers to think about how they can support carers in the workplace
*To enable professionals taking part the chance to learn first-hand what it is like to be a carer, allowing them to use that learning in their respective jobs and to disseminate that knowledge to colleagues

Opportunities to participate include:
*Meeting with a group of young carers during one of their activity days in the half-term holiday (1st to 4th June)
*Meeting with a carer in their own home or at a community venue and sometimes with the person they care for
*Playing a round of golf with a group of carers.

If you would like to participate, or for further details, please contact Nick Fry at The Carers Centre on (01273) 234045, nick.fry@thecarerscentre.org

If you have a particular activity or interest that you would be willing to share with a carer/group of carers or if you would like to be matched with a specific carer e.g. a parent carer or a carer of someone with mental health needs then please let Nick know.

All participants will be asked to feedback to The Carers Centre who will produce a report of the 2010 Carers Challenge. This will be published and press released and we may approach some of you for quotes. Additionally you may be asked if you are happy for your photograph to be taken during the Challenge.

For more information about issues relating to carers please contact Tamsin Peart, Joint Commissioner for Carers’ Services:
tamsin.peart@brighton-hove.gov.uk
tel. 01273 295253

We very much hope you will take up our Challenge and give the message to carers in our city that they are valued and respected.
