How to post on Facebook when on holiday

Does this sound like your worst nightmare? Does it mean you have to take your smartphone on holiday and hunt out free wi-fi in remote locations?

No way! Posting on Facebook can be done before you even get on the plane (and I don’t mean last minute updates from the departure lounge either).

The answer is scheduling in advance. (Please note, this only works for Facebook Pages, not Personal Profiles or Facebook Groups).

Follow these 5 easy steps and you don’t have to even think about social media while you are relaxing in the sun:

  1. Write your posts – you will want to share your usual high quality content, so start out by creating 3+ pieces for each week you are away.
  2. Content ideas – it doesn’t have to be all our own, you can link to articles from others and add your own comments (just as long as it is valuable to your audience).
  3. Timing is everything – ensure you know the best times your Facebook updates reach your audience. Check in your Facebook Insights (inside your Admin Panel) to see when content gets most likes, shares and comments, and note the day/time you posted.
  4. How to schedule – update your “Status” as usual (remembering to include a photo or article that has a thumbnail image) and instead of hitting “Post”, click on the tiny clock icon and schedule the year, month, day, hour, minute and then hit “Schedule”. You can view your scheduled posts in the Activity Log in your Admin Panel and either delete or change the times.
  5. Check engagement – when you get back from your holiday, remember to check your Facebook Page Notifications and reply to comments, as well as thank people for liking and sharing your content.

Happy posting (and holidays!)
