Getting to Grips with Growth Workshop

Lisa Westbury and Emma Haughton of Generate invited us to work out what growth meant to us and our businesses and to formulate a strategy with the help and support of fellow Brighton Summit attendees on our table.

We worked out where we are now and where we want to be in a year’s time. We were asked to write on the table one issue or problem we are facing now within our business and the varied results were interesting with some reoccurring themes such as not enough time and managing growth.

On my table I had business owners from differing backgrounds offering a variety of services and they all brought a wealth of experience from their field and offered a different perspective to the topics under discussion.

My group included:

Samer Bagaeen, who is on the Board of Trustees at the Royal Town Planning Institute.

Muir Jankowski from Fin and Farm, who deliver Fresh Sussex produce to home & commercial kitchens in Brighton, Hove & Lewes.

Julio Alonso from Facturama Limited, who create awesome web applications.

Stephen Clark from Digital Web World Ltd, who offer integrated and digital marketing services.

Dominic Dellow of Curveit.com, an IT Support Company and EventsWIFI.com who deploy temporary or permanent WiFi solutions.

To wrap up Lisa asked us to share what growth meant to us and the responses varied from, “It’s about balance, balancing home and work” to “Growth has the potential to be seductive but also destructive if you are not rooted” and “Growth is about going deeper.” All these thought-provoking quotes encouraged us to look ahead to our futures and where we can sustainably grow our own businesses.

The workshop was insightful and practical and a great way to meet fellow Chamber members interested in growing their own businesses.

Lisa Westbury and Emma Haughton of Generate facilitated the Growth Workshop.
