What business support is available in Brighton?

By Hannah Jackson of Brighton Chamber

Business support can come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, with programmes to suit different businesses, and help with different challenges.

Whether you’re looking to review your business model, get advice from an expert, grow your business, or innovate, there are plenty of business support programmes to choose from in Brighton, Hove and the surrounding area.

Here are a few that are running as of April 2022.

The Confident Business series

Led by the Business & IP Centre (BIPC) Brighton & Hove, delivered by Brighton Chamber and always possible

A brand-new business support programme for any business that’s looking to review and reboot confidently into this year and beyond. Designed to help you step away and think strategically about your business, structure your planning and tighten your business model.

The programme of free, practical support includes small group workshops on four key topics: Pitch, Customers, Price and Tech; one-to-one advice sessions with business experts; and peer-to-peer networking.

You’ll come away with refreshed ideas, new confident and deeper thinking about your business. And, you can pick and choose what sessions you come to, so you don't have to come to everything, just pick what's right for your business.

Workshops start from the end of March. Find out more and book on the Chamber website.

Help to Grow programme

Delivered by the University of Brighton

The government’s flagship executive development leadership and management programme, designed to help you grow your business.

It supports leaders and senior managers of small and medium-sized businesses through a 12-week programme, using a combination of online and face-to-face sessions and case study workshops.

You’ll get the opportunity to develop your leadership and management skills, adopt new and improved business practices and gain the confidence and tools to implement change in your business. You’ll come away with a tailored Growth Action Plan to lead and develop your business.

The programme is 90% funded by the UK Government, and the programme is currently recruiting. Find out more on the University of Brighton website.

Innovate with BRITE

Run by the team at Plus X Brighton together with the University of Brighton

Your one-stop-shop if you’re a business leader looking to innovate. The BRITE programme has three strands:

INSPIRE: a 5-month one-to-one coaching programme to help you learn about open innovation, develop a bespoke innovation readiness review, and forge the right partnerships for growth.

ACCESS EXPERTISE: fully-funded academic expertise and support from the University of Brighton to solve a specific challenge in your business. You could get help with lab-based analysis, testing, data evaluation, product or service design.
