Always keep one step ahead: growth lessons from Gemini Print

Gemini Brighton MD Dave Britton and Gemini Print MD Steve Cropper with their new Heidelberg machinery

We caught up with Richard Golds of Gemini Brighton, our Print Sponsor for the Brighton Summit, to find out what growth means to them.

Tell us a bit about Gemini Brighton’s story

Based near Brighton in Shoreham-by-Sea, Gemini Brighton has been a commercial printing business for many decades. We print everything but we have a core specialism in printing and finishing brochures, catalogues and magazines as well as direct mail, stationery, posters, newsletters, business cards.

As part of Gemini Print we are one of the leading eco-friendly printers serving the South East and nationally.

Now we have over 27 of the latest presses with a turnover approaching £20 million, making us one of the largest print providers in the southern half of England.

What does growth mean to you

Good growth means building a profitable and satisfying business for you and your employees; one that provides a product or service to be proud of, no matter how large the business gets. It’s about keeping customers happy and engaging with new customers – all the time providing exceptional customer care and value for money.

What lessons have you learnt about growing your business and your people?

Employees are one of your most valuable business assets. Find people who share your vision and are as inspired as you are to grow your business.

Keep a careful watch on the quality of your products and always keep one step ahead by investing in new products and services that the market may demand.

Provide a brilliant product or service, with top-notch customer care, go over and above what the customer expects of you, and growth will happen organically! This may sound glib but all it really means is when you treat your customers as valued friends, you make a customer for life. And these customers will usually be more than happy to refer you to their friends and family, too.

What are you looking forward to about this year’s Brighton Summit?

I’m looking forward to meeting some of the great speakers, plus meeting new clients and connecting with long-established ones.
