Sussex Nightstop
Sussex Nightstop works to prevent vulnerable young people from becoming homeless. We catch people before they begin rough sleeping and face the many dangers associated with street homelessness such as sexual exploitation, drug use, and coercion in to criminal activity as well as to alleviate the wider negative impacts of homelessness.
Sussex Nightstop offers people who are in this situation access to safe accommodation. We achieve this by enabling the community to respond. There is so much spare accommodation and so much will to help. Our concept is very simple; we train and support volunteer hosts to open up their spare room to a person at risk of homelessness and then match them with a person who needs emergency accommodation. People can stay with us for a single night or up to a few weeks while their longer term housing situation is addressed. Without this first level of practical assistance it is virtually impossible for the person to work their way out of this desperate situation.
