Construction Voice: Can councils prosper from their property portfolios?
By Brighton Chamber
For local authorities, owning real estate assets can help protect against inflation, underpin long term income streams, and opportunities to leverage debt. But they can also create challenges – whether that’s underperformance, maintenance works, obsolescence or vacancies. As annual budgets are increasingly difficult to balance amidst rising cost pressure and population needs, local authorities like Brighton & Hove City Council are looking at how these assets are performing.
So, for our next Construction Voice event, we’re looking at how Brighton & Hove City Council is addressing the challenges and opportunities of its real estate assets, with an open discussion on innovative ways it can manage these assets more efficiently.
In conversation with Ed Allison-Wright, we’ll hear from Cllr Jacob Taylor, Cabinet Member for Finance and City Regeneration and Deputy Leader of the Council. We’ll investigate how Brighton & Hove City Council is using its real estate portfolio to protect services, as well as exploring whether there are practices we can adopt from other cities.
We’ll be sending some questions in advance for you, our audience, to think about – to bring your business perspective and your experience to the discussion and help shape the future of our city.
