Working in Microsoft Teams is fun

By Ike Gluski of JFDI Consulting Ltd

Sitting at home and writing emails to each other can be dull as ditch water. Without having fun at work, you can easily be distracted and get bored. Fortunately, the days of communicating with colleagues via emails are long gone. We now have platforms for working together in a much more efficient way. I’d like to introduce you to the one I use on daily basis and show you how you can have a lot of fun using it. Welcome to Microsoft Teams.

First, a few facts. Teams is a collaboration workspace in the Microsoft 365 cloud. It was created as a replacement for Skype for Business and Microsoft Classroom. The great thing about Teams is the possibility of integrating with all Microsoft products, as well as the non-Microsoft ones. Thanks to this flexibility, Teams quickly became a platform of choice for 93 out of Fortune 100 and 45 million daily users.

Microsoft Teams is platform-agnostic. You can get it on all major operating systems including mobiles. Currently it may not seem like a useful thing, but the option to work from any location, sending audio messages and using Office Lens to scan documents can be lifesaving!

As a replacement for Skype for business and Microsoft Classroom, Teams needs to fulfil every communication need you have. And it does. I mentioned sending audio messages, but what else is there?

You can have private chats in a messenger fashion. You can create Teams, and Channels which are your main working space. Internally, you can have conversations with a whole department or around a specific project.

But plain conversations can be boring.

How do you prevent this? Teams let you use emoji, GIFs and stickers. Additionally, there are a bunch of them that can be edited, which gives you another level of personalisation. You can even create a special channel for funny stuff and GIF wars! Then surprise everybody and pin a YouTube playlist to the channel. You can pin any page to any channel. For work or fun…

Beside discussions, you can collaborate on files. Just schedule a meeting or call it on the spot and work simultaneously with your colleagues. While on the call, you can add your own backgrounds and crack some jokes. If you don’t like the ones that are available, feel free to create your own.

When all of those will become a daily routine just integrate some games as apps and then every day can be completely different. Or maybe write your own using “Power Apps”? This platform is almost limitless!

Microsoft Teams is not only a fantastic workspace which allows you to work in so many different ways, but it’s a very flexible place. This flexibility gives you a whole bunch of options to keep morale high by having fun while working.
