Study Awards and Prizes Help Students Beat the Recession

The University of Brighton is offering financial support to students applying for its Postgraduate Certificate in Social Marketing.

Social marketing is an approach that can support changing people’s behaviours for the good of society.  It is increasingly being used to tackle key health, environmental and civic issues such as obesity, recycling, binge drinking and sexually transmitted infections - all of which can place a huge financial and social burden on society.

One free place, a number of part study awards, and prizes for outstanding students are available thanks to the support of leading communications and community cohesion consultants The Campaign Company (TCC).  Applications for these awards are now invited for 2010. The closing date is 31st May 2010.

TCC Chairman Jonathan Upton said:  “At a time when the budgets of many organisations are under pressure, we are delighted that we can do a little to help make this excellent course accessible to those who can benefit from it most.”

Matt Wood, Principal Lecturer in Marketing and course leader, said: “Most people know what they should be doing to improve their health or to reduce waste, but such changes can often be difficult to achieve.  Evidence shows that simply providing people with information alone isn’t enough to help and encourage them to change their behaviour.”

This flexible, part-time course will be of particular interest to professionals wanting to deepen their understanding of social marketing and apply their learning to work-based projects. It is also well placed to help people wanting a career change. The course is taught by leading business, social science and health academics and practitioners, including Professor Jeff French, founder of the National Social Marketing Centre.

For further information and an informal chat, prospective students can contact:
Brighton Business School Postgraduate Office on 01273 642197 or email postgrad.business@brighton.ac.uk.

More information is available from the Brighton Business School website.
