Networking Success

Breakfast event “opened fantastic doors” for BHCC member The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home.

"I often find that I am avoided like a plague at most networking events as working for a charitable organisation means people often assume I’ll sign them up for some hideous charity event or produce a collection pot out of my bag to rattle under their noses!

So you can imagine my delight when I sat down to tuck into a fabulous feast at the BHCC June breakfast meeting, and found myself sat next to Tim Cobb of Cobb PR who, after asking me all about the Queen Alexandra Hospital Home, could see a way he could support us without getting out the cheque book.

Charity work is not just about raising money but in this current climate, businesses offering their expertise, gifts in kind or a little of their time can be just as valuable.  This is exactly what Tim did for us and it has opened fantastic doors for QAHH.

A week after the breakfast meeting, Tim and I met in a lovely coffee shop in Brighton and he spent almost 2 hours offering free advice, guidance and ideas on how best to put a PR and communications plan in place at the Hospital Home.

Since then, I have been able to secure support from my board of Trustees with a plan and am in the process of looking at a PR and Marketing student joining us from Bournemouth University – all because Tim was willing to spare an hour of his time.

So the moral of this story is twofold – 1) if you haven’t already, sign up to the Brighton and Hove Chamber of Commerce as it really works and is a fabulous opportunity to build business to business relationships and 2) don’t ignore Fundraisers; we aren’t always just about the money!"
