Local Businesses learn about online success

Start-ups and small businesses were given the opportunity to learn about building their own website and promoting themselves online during a workshop run by Brighton-based website creation service, Create.net and City College Brighton and Hove.

The workshop was part of the initiative 'Global Entrepreneurship Week', which is proudly backed by Dragon's Den star Peter Jones. The week aimed to “make a job, not take a job” and encouraged innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity.

There was a great mix of businesses attending the workshop, some already had a website, while others had no real knowledge of the internet at all. The workshop had a hands-on approach, and this worked well to ensure everyone received the individual attention they needed.

Debbie Mann, owner of Independent Property Inspections, said,
“The workshop was really useful, especially since some individuals had not used Create before. It showed me how Create could grow with my business, and how I can increase my internet visibility. The workshop showed me that a good site really is no longer out of my reach.”

Leona Andersson, runs her own acupuncture practice and agreed that the skills she had learnt had made her confident about setting up her own website.
“The workshop showed me how I can present myself as a professional, attract new clientèle and provide people with all the information they need to consider using my service.”

Grace Cooper, who ran the workshop said,
“It was our first workshop and we were thrilled by the positive response. We really believe that building a strong online presence is essential for your business success and we wanted the workshop to demonstrate how easily this can be achieved. Hopefully this will be the first of many!”
