Competition in the Age of Austerity

How can UK PLC be optimistic, innovative and creative during the current economic climate?

10am – 4.30pm, Saturday 12th March 2011, The Brighton Dome, £35.00

Making their case for how the UK can raise its game to adapt to recent economic challenges, speakers from the fields of Enterprise, Science & Technology, the Arts and Education will kick off a day salon

The morning session will be chaired by Matthew Taylor, CEO of the RSA, who will speak about sustainable citizenship in the age of austerity. 

Confirmed speakers are:

Julia Chanteray - President of the Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce
, founder of the Joy of Business which helps develop small businesses. Julia was also resident business expert on Channel 4's Risking It All programme

Nicholas Showan - Founder and MD of Jali Ltd, which manufactures architectural woodwork and bespoke furniture using automated technology

Andrew Shoben - Founder of greyworld, a world renowned artists' collective that makes art in public places, responsible for The Source at the London Stock Exchange and as part of Channel 4's Big Art Project in 2009, Invisible in Burnley

Susan Meek - retired Head of St Mary's Hall school, former Head of Performing Arts at Roedean School and Head of Creative Studies at the International School in Riyadh. Susan is currently a Schools Inspector in the UK and Dubai

After a buffet lunch, the RSA South East will then invite you to contribute ideas and participate in discussion, debate and 'call to action'. Attendees will move into 'World Cafe' discussion groups, each hosted by a speaker, with the aim of producing a plan of action for a way forward. The day will also provide plenty of opportunities for networking with RSA Fellows.

**Please note: all attendees will receive discount parking of £5 for the day at nearby City College.**
