College launches IOSH ‘Managing Safely’ course

From February, City College Brighton and Hove will be offering a comprehensive 4-day IOSH Managing Safely training course accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). The course, which is intended for managers and supervisors in all organisations across all sectors, provides delegates with sufficient knowledge to be able to manage health and safety issues in their workplace.

“It’s the first time we’ve offered this course but thought it was vital to provide it to local organisations because Health and Safety Training is becoming an increasingly important consideration for businesses of all sizes”
, said Debbie Copsey, Short Course Coordinator for the College’s City Business Skills department .

“This course is being launched at the College at an ideal time because there’s a clear business and legal need for all managers and supervisors to have a sound foundation regarding the management of health and safety risks. The programme we’re offering has been designed and quality-controlled by the biggest professional health and safety body in the world so delegates can be assured that they’re getting the best training possible in this area.”

The course includes an introduction to health and safety management, the identification of hazards, assessing and controlling risks, understanding responsibilities, investigating accidents and incidents, measuring performance and protecting our environment. Although an awareness of health and safety issues would be an advantage it is not essential. Upon completion of the course delegates who go on to successfully complete both the practical and written assessments will be awarded a certificate from IOSH.
