Brighton sustainability photo competition launches

A competition to find Brighton and Hove’s image of sustainability launches this week.

Students and members of the local community are challenged to capture their idea of sustainability in the city in just one shot. The best entries will be exhibited at the prestigious Amex Community Football Stadium in March.

Online social platform Caydoo (pronounced Kee-Doo) designed Brighton’s ‘A Picture of Sustainability’ competition to encourage people to think about the environment and area in which they live.

A panel of experts will judge the entries on concept as well as skill. A shortlist of 25 images will then face public vote. There will be two overall winners with prizes awarded to the entry with most public votes and the best shot as chosen by the judges.

Competition prizes include a Clock Tower Cameras voucher worth £500, one year’s Zipcar membership with £150 driving credit and tickets to a Brighton & Hove Albion FC home league game.

Submissions should be uploaded to preferred picture sharing sites such as Flickr, Picasa or Photobucket with a short caption. Entrants will then be required to post a link to their final entry shot in the ‘A Picture of Sustainability’ group on the Caydoo website.

Liam Muckleston, Co-founder of Caydoo believes the competition will encourage people to explore the wide variety of sustainable initiatives on offer in the city. He said:

“Photographs capture the imagination and inspire thought and we hope the competition will do just that for Brighton & Hove. It’s an exciting opportunity to showcase people’s different ideas of sustainability.

“You don’t need to be a photographer to have a camera and an opinion. The idea is to provoke and capture people’s thoughts whatever their age, ability or lifestyle choices.”

The competition closes on Friday 17th February. For full competition details visit www.caydoo.com.

Brighton’s ‘A Picture of Sustainability’ photography competition will run for five weeks from Monday 9th January to Friday 17th February. Public voting will run for ten days until 1st March 2012.

The competition winner will be announced at the Amex Community Stadium on 1st March, where the 25 shortlisted entries will be on display.

Entrants must join Caydoo to enter the competition and vote.
