Google Chat now has Video Messaging
Add more personality to your messages
Ever read and re-read a message, trying to figure out the sender’s tone? Google Workspace is introducing video messaging in Google Chat, bringing a whole new level of expression and clarity to your team’s communication. Now you can see your teammate’s facial expressions and hear their tone of voice, eliminating any guesswork and ensuring the message is understood exactly as intended. Also, a quick video message is way easier than typing out a long essay-type message (what are we, still in high school? Nah).
Why Video Messaging in Google Chat?
Think about how much more you can say with a quick video message compared to a wall of text. Video allows you to:
- Save Time: Quickly explain complex ideas or provide updates without scheduling a meeting.
- Boost Clarity: Add tone and emphasis to your message to ensure your meaning is crystal clear.
- Increase Engagement: Share company-wide announcements with a personal touch, fostering a sense of connection and transparency.
Ways you can use Video Messaging
Sales teams can now send personalised video messages to clients showcasing new product features, while support teams can walk customers through solutions with easy-to-follow video instructions.
Executives can share company updates in a more engaging and accessible format, and team members can send quick video updates instead of having to attend yet another meeting.
You can also use it to send a more personalised “happy birthday” message if you want, or even show your boss exactly how much traffic you’re dealing with and that’s why you’re going to be late to work.
Get started with video messaging today
- Easy to Use: Simply hit the record button in the Chat compose box, record your message, and send it! You can even preview and re-record your video before sharing it.
- Versatile: Send video messages in direct messages, group chats, and spaces.
- Interactive: Just like any other Chat message, you can quote, react to, and reply to video messages.
- Organised: All your video messages are neatly stored in the Media section of the Shared tab.
Important to Note
For now, you can send video messages from the web app and view them on any device. However, recording is temporarily unavailable on ChromeOS, Linux, and Firefox. It’s also worth noting that video messages are treated like attachments for Google Vault, Google Takeout, and Security Investigation Tool purposes.
When’s it available?
- Rapid Release domains: Gradual rollout starts on the 21st of October 2024
- Scheduled Release domains: Gradual rollout starts on the 8th of November 2024
