The ‘Accessible’ Breakfast
Nowhere is accessibility more important than in public transport.
Victoria Garcia from Brighton & Hove Buses is the person who ensures that every aspect of accessibility is considered in every aspect of the business, from driver training to ticket machine design.
She’s been involved with a host of initiatives including developing a hearing loop system, dementia-friendly bus floors and safety pole designs.
An expert in her field, Victoria was awarded the MBE for services to disabled transport users. She also spends part of her week working as a Senior Policy Advisor with the Department of Transport’s Accessibility Team.
So what’s this got to do with business? Well, just about everyone will have an accessibility requirement at some point in their lives. Victoria will emphasise that ensuring the buses are user-friendly for disabled customers is the right thing to do for business reasons too.
So come along to our August breakfast to find out how Victoria’s own disability inspired her work – and what she is planning to do next.
